Chicago Trip Day2 -SUN

Sunday morning T noticed that there were 3 dogs tied up outside the dunkin donuts. Yes, we assumed their owners were in there getting donuts, I was just amazed at how calm the dogs were. Living downtown is such a different way of life.DSC01805DSC01806Trent had planned a breakfast spot all on his own. Usually I am the one that plans where we eat, so this was surprising. It was called Yolk and was a few blocks down Michigan so we thought we could handle the walk.

DSC01824DSC01827DSC01828We put our name in for a table and it was a 45 minute wait, pretty popular place. Grant Park was across the street so we thought we would walk around in there a bit.

Finally we went back to the restaurant and were seated. I ordered the cinnamon roll french toast. That was soooo amazing good, and calorie plus, but idontcare!DSC01829

Ethan got the kids full breakfast which was an egg, 1 sausage, 1 bacon, a bunch of fruit and a pancake – and his came with 2 pancakes. He said his eggs were “awesome” without us even asking. DSC01830

T got an omelette, potatoes, and toast. Yolk was really great, with outstanding food, well worth the wait. It was really packed in there, so it was really noisy. DSC01831

Next we were going to visit the bean. Ethan was excited about seeing it. I had planned on catching a cab from Yolk, but it was ok temp out so we thought we would walk and just take our time. I didnt want our feet to start hurting again, so we didnt walk fast. You notice much more when walking. Ethan commented on this building that had “glass for walls” so I just had to take a pic of it. Ethan commented on this smooth curb he was sitting on, he learned about granite. DSC01839 DSC01840 DSC01841 DSC01842

Getting closer to the bean and Ethan is getting anxious.

The face fountain thingies… but they weren’t running in Nov. Ethan really didn’t notice the video at all upclose.DSC01844 DSC01846 DSC01847 DSC01848

Ethan doesn’t realize it but the bean is near… DSC01851 DSC01852 DSC01853a ton of people were there – taking pics on their reflections DSC01855 DSC01858 DSC01862 DSC01863

we let E take some pics, too DSC01864 DSC01869 DSC01873 DSC01874 DSC01876 DSC01878 DSC01879 DSC01880 DSC01881 DSC01883 DSC01885 DSC01886

and my fav one… DSC01888 DSC01889

stopped in the BlackHawks store DSC01890 DSC01891

Chicago River to find the water taxi to Navy Pier DSC01892

was hard to find it had to cross the river so we found Billy Goat on lower Wacker and just peaked our head in there to see it. DSC01894 DSC01895 DSC01896

and then found out that water taxi were not running that day - great DSC01897 DSC01898

so we caught a cab – that Ethan excitedly saw approached in the middle lane and waved his hands and skipped to the edge of the street and the cab swerved right over to pick us up. I thought it was just the neatest thing that he ‘hailed’ that cab! That one was his fav, too. It had a tv monitor in the back right in front of him. It was just displaying ads and was really for you to pay with a credit card.

then at Navy Pier, we were bummed they didnt have lockers for our coats. We were walking the length inside and suddenly Trent says “was that Siskel or Ebert?” Well, obviously Ebert as Siskel has passed. I totally missed seeing him, turned back and saw a gray haired man with his wife. I guess it was him wish I really saw him. I knew we would see a pseudo-celebrity that weekend! And Ebert is a great Chicago celebrity.  DSC01902 DSC01903 DSC01904

I wanted to go on the boat ride that would tour the lake, I really thought E would think it was neat. It left from the dock 9 at Navy Pier, we took the 2:15 tour for like $34 and E was free.DSC01905 DSC01906 DSC01907 DSC01910

it was a 6 mile loop for 30 minutes with a tour guide guy. He was pretty good, and had a great baritone voice. DSC01912 DSC01914 DSC01915 DSC01918 DSC01920 DSC01921

love that I got skyline pics from Lake Michigan. I have never taken a skyline pic from this side. DSC01923 DSC01924 DSC01926 DSC01927

Ethan really wanted to go to the Children’s Museum there. Kids were free on the first Sunday of the month, so we just had to check it out. We were only there for like an 1.5 hrs though. DSC01928 DSC01929 DSC01930 DSC01932 DSC01936 DSC01937 DSC01940 DSC01941 DSC01945 DSC01948 DSC01953 DSC01955 DSC01956 DSC01958 DSC01960 DSC01962 DSC01963

Ethan loved creating different ‘paper airplanes’ and cranking them up to the top and seeing them fall. We spent alot of time in there. DSC01969 DSC01971

Ethan went on a field trip there in 1st grade, and his fav was the water room so I knew he would spend alot of time there. DSC01973 DSC01974 DSC01975 DSC01981 DSC01984 DSC01990 DSC01991 DSC01992 DSC01994  Building a skyscraper in only 12 minutes and the took pics of you and then you could create a story. Ethan thought this was neat.DSC01995DSC01997

Finally we had early supper at Billy Goat at Navy Pier. I just wanted to try it out. I had the ribeye and T had a Cheezborger, E a Hamborger DSC02000

outside of the condos we stayed in…. DSC02006

since this was the weekend we changed clocks when we got in the car it said 7:00pm, so we ‘fell back” to 6pm. We pulled into our driveway at exactly 7:00 pm, had to explain that to the kid.

Ugh, now the time of the year when I leave work when it is dark outside.
