Visit to a dairy farm

Today we went down to Fair Oaks Farms here in Indiana. It should have only taken us about 30 min. to get there, but the freakin traffic/construction on I65 made it be close to an hour! It was so dumb how slow it was to get to one lane. I noticed it was going to be that way on the return home, too! I've heard great things about the place and was wanting to go there. First we checked out the adventure building with really neat displays. We got our tickets for the bus tour out to the barns and milking barn, so we had about 35 min until our bus boarding. We had fun playing with all the displays and maybe E learned a little of something.

We saw the cool 4D movie. Ethan was excited about the glasses we had to wear. He didn't know what was about to come. They had the cool chairs like Disney to make it truly 4D. They shook, they blew air on us and then even sprayed us with milk from a cow! It was just a mist of water, but it was surprising. Towards the end of the movie, E buried his head in me because he was scared of what this cartoon cow was gonna spray on us. It was awesome 3D movie, too!

After we saw the movie it led us through an exhibit about the feed. We still had time before the boarding of the bus so we walked over to the birthing barn. They have a stoplight signaling if a calf was going to be barn soon, it was on red the whole time we were there. We saw calves that were only an hour old, though. (they were born when we were stuck in that traffic on 65!!)

We walked back to get on the bus next. It was a school bus but they extended the windows lower so the kids so easily see out. We saw how they make their feed and all the hay bales. We went through a huge cow barn. We also saw a lot of calves that were separated outside.

We saw the milking barn with the 'dairy-go-round' They showed a movie about it. They pointed out to feel the pipes that were pumping the milk out of the cows, E liked this part. It was warm and the piping above it was how cold it was as it when out to a milk truck.

Ethan feeling the pipes warm and cold
We then took a different bus back to the cheese factory. We had to try out their ice cream next. I got a shake, T got a brownie sundae, and E a vanilla kiddie cone, of course.

T wanted to pick out some cheese, too. We got Cheddar, Muenster & Calico. They let us sample the cheeses, too. E asked to try the 'monster cheese'. The worker girl laughed at that saying we don't have any monsters here!

I let him pick out a little souvenir- a little cow that moos. He named it 'moo cow'.

There was a kid play area that was mostly still closed for the season. We went through this neat maze. E loved it, but it was hard. I gave up. Then he had to check on the tractor slide playset.
Ethan's favorite part was seeing the newborn calves.
We saw so many cows! Wow, so so many there!
The weather outside was only in the 40s, still kind of cold. We were only outside at the end playing on the kid area.
It was a fun day.

We went to Home Depot and Meijer before going home. We have the gift for a party tomorrow. Ethan gets to go to another party at the jump place.

I got a new shelving system for E's room, it is 9 cubes. It should fit a lot of his toys and books. I'm going to attempt to put it together myself. T is making another bean bag game for someone, but maybe he will help out.

March is full of birthdays!

We have several family birthdays in March. Ethan was just on the 12th, then T's mom is 16th, my dad is on 22nd and then our dog, Ashton is on the 26th.

On Monday, 16th we went to T's parents for his mom's birthday. I picked out a coral colored sweater from CJ's for her. I think it was a different color for her, but she can wear it with different colored pants for a new look.

Then on Saturday night we went to my parent's house for my dad's birthday. My mom invited us over for dinner and cake. We got him money for new bike
shorts. I guess those special shorts are expensive! I made a little pair of shorts to hold the money. T suggested that I add some foam to the butt for that extra padding that is in there, so I found some to snip to add to it. So funny! My parents were leaving for a trip to Natchez on Monday. I like how they make time to travel still.

See the little shorts pocket with the shorts with the money pocket...

Then today was Ashton's birthday! He is 9, wow! I got him his white cupcakes on my way home. He was totally expecting them I think! He saw that container and really responded to it. I waited until T was home for the annual pics of him eating his cupcake.

Giving T 'five' before he gets his treat...

E was excited to use some of his birthday money this past week. He got a gift card to Best Buy from his A. Pat & U. Jim for a wii game. He picked out Mario Kart. We let him pay the cashier, he was so cute!
We played some when we got home. It is a fun one with a steering wheel, but T thinks you have more control with just the regular controller.
T is still so addicted to that Lego Stars Wars game. It is crazy funny how he plays it SO MUCH! He is downstairs right now playing it, it is a little advanced for E. Well, at least the level that T is at now. They can play it together but then I hear T yelling at E to either "Stop hitting my guy" or "quit going that way" and it is in an angry tone. Yeah, nice.

Looking forward to the weekend. I am taking Friday off and planning on going to Fair Oaks Farms.
I've been wanting to check that place out for awhile. I've heard it is great for the kids. I'll take way too many pics, I'm sure!

St. Patrick's Day complete with Parade

I love dressing up in green on St. Patrick's Day. We ended up celebrating M2's birthday at work on this day. Only 3 of us wore green at work - me, Stevie & cb. We took M2 to TJs for a birthday lunch but it was just me & Kim. It was neat seeing TJs so busy with everyone enjoying the St. Pats festivities. I wished I could have ordered up a green beer then! I got the yummy shepherd's pie.

I was planning on going to CP's 1st annual St. Patrick's Day parade. So happy that they moved the start time to 6:45pm so I could make it. It was a PAIN getting to a parking lot, way too many streets were blocked off, it was stupid.
We all wore our green, E & I wore the light up shamrock necklaces I got at the DollarStore and I brought extra goodies for the cousins.

Quite a bit of people showed up for the parade. The weather was awesome, like high 60s. So nice. We sat by our church.
I packed us some drinks and snacks. We actually didnt see the parade until around 7:30 down where we were! I need to remember that for next year.

It was so neat to see a night parade with the lights. I love lights! Each float had to have at least 150 lights. Most of them were green, too! These were horses, hard to tell with the dark pic, I know. Check out their lights on their ankles and around their neck! So neat!

One float had a little leprechaun and Trent realized he knew him! It was Stevie, who graduated a few years ago. How cute is he in that green tux?? He was dancing around when he went by us. We parked by where the parade ended and T had to get a pic with him.
Overall, a good parade. It wasnt too short or too long, might need candy thrown for next year. People in this town expect candy at parades, our 4th parades get insane with candy. I think next year we will just walk from our house so it won't take so long to see it all.

Birthday party recap

Ethan and his friends had a ball at Jump Zone. I stressed over it way too much, but it ended up ok. The place was huge and so nice. The kids all kind of did their own thing. It was hard rounding them all up when we ordered pizza.

Ethan with Savannah & Zach

All 11 kids he invited showed up to play, too! They let us use the party room for the pizza & drinks we ordered. They had plates, cups & napkins included. It was nice. We had the place pretty much to ourselves, I think 2 other families were there part of the time. It was good I had it on a Thurs. night on his actual birthday.
They had this neat Birthday Throne in the party room for the birthday kid. We told the parents that they didnt need to bring a present, but about half did. I think the ones that didnt bring a gift just ran to go jump more, which was fine.
Then on Sat. we had our family party at the house. I didnt do a set theme as years past. Couldn't decide on anything. His cake he chose was Hot Wheels, but he isn't a super fan of cars.

The cake was neat, called a stage cake. The pic in the bakery book of course was awesome due to them using fondant.

My happy 6 yr old.
