Passed the timed test!

Ethan has been taking timed tests in class. He has passed the addition and subtraction. It is 100 problems in 4 minutes.

He has been on the multiplication for about 3 weeks now. I pulled out his flash cards and we have been working on the x8 x9 ones that he keeps missing. He getting through them in the time, but getting 4-5 wrong.

One day at Jewel/Osco he saw a little wolf animal he just HAD to have. I said, that could be a prize for when you pass the mult. test. He rolled his eyes and said “forget it, I’ll never pass it” I really had to talk to him about not giving up on it. I just knew he could do it. No in his class had passed it yet, so for some reason he thought it was impossible. I knew he could complete it, he did it last year in 2nd grade, but it was different and not 100 problems.

Right after he went back to school after being home sick with strep, he passed it on Feb. 1.  EthanTimedTestAplus

So proud of him – I hope he is proud of himself.  etimedtest

Now on to division…wonder how long that will take?

Strep throat

E was complaining a little of a headache on Wed night and then said he throat kind of hurt. I had just said earlier that day that Ethan had never ever said he had a sore throat. I almost thought that he didn’t know what that would be. My coworker said her son might have strep throat and was taking him in to the doctor later that day and then she was going to be tested, too. We had gone out to eat to Ponderosa and when we got home he had said his head and throat hurt.  I remember helping him study for his social studies test the next day and he was fine.

Then the next morning he said he his head was bothering him and T took his temperature and he had a fever. So, he stayed home from school. Trent was saying that strep throat is going around town and our niece had it last week. I really didn’t think he had it, he didn’t have much of a fever. I left work at 2pm to come home for him so T could go to work. We took his temp at 2:30 and it was 101! We gave him more chewable aspirin and it went down a little. He was acting normal, not moping around like a sickie. He was playing on his laptop.

I went to his school to pick up his homework from Thursday, one of the secretaries is our neighbor so she asked about him. I said he still has a fever so started up another round of medicine. The other lady chimed in saying, of so he will be out tomorrow then? I said I’d wait to see how he was feeling in the morning, and after hearing me say he still had a fever at 2:30, she kind of wrinkles her nose and says “they have to be fever free without medicine for 24 hours prior to coming back to school.” I guess I never realized that!! He has never missed more than 1 day of school per year! Poor kid.

So he stayed home on Friday, Thursday night his temp was 103 once! It was amazing how hot he kept getting!

Trent took him to the doctor on Friday and it was confirmed that he had STREP THROAT.  They gave him 4 of the chewable medicines while at their office. I had only been giving him 2, so upped those to 3. He got an antibiotic and T had them flavor it with blueberry. Ethan absolutely hated it! There were tears. It was only 6ml in a tiny cup, it is a very small amount. He would drink it in 4 tiny sips and chased it with juice after each sip! It was crazy how long it took him to take it. I did have flashbacks to my childhood not liking the cherry cough medicine, but wasn’t allowed to chase it with anything.

Saturday Jan 28 - he was still running a fever and it was still 101-102, so I made him a cherry slushie. It made him happy.DSC04016 DSC04024 DSC04029 DSC04030

Sunday Jan 29 – still running a fever! He had a fever still at 3pm. When he went to bed he finally felt cool. It was amazing, after touching his head and feeling that heat for so long, that night he was actually cool not warm to me!

Monday Jan 30 – no temp in the morning, but we kept him home one more day, since the whole 24 hr prior -he did have a fever. I picked up the 2nd bottle of his medicine and asked for no flavoring. He said it was a little better tasting. Eventually, he did swallow it all at once. But still chased it with juice.

Poor Ethan. I was afraid to bring up that he won’t be in the perfect attendance group picture in the yearbook now…I know he will be bummed.

More of a snowstorm Jan 20

It was quite a treacherous drive home. The roads weren’t plowed yet and my little Cube was struggling through a good 5 inches. It was sliding some, but not that scary. I was happy that I didn’t have to rush to pick up Ethan from school, since his Poppy picked him up. My stress level really is reduced when I don’t have to hurry to get him by 6pm. I think it took me only 35 min to get home.

Oh, I had ordered 2 RedBox movies the night before and needed to pick them up at Walgreens by my house. It was really snowing bad by then. I put in my debit card and it spit out my 2 movies. I had ordered The Help and Moneyball. I thought T & I could watch Moneyball together that Friday night since the game got postponed due the snow. I grabbed the dvds out of my purse 2 hours later and realized the Redbox gave me 2 copies of The Help. No Moneyball! I am still so shocked that happened. I checked my email confirmations and yes, I ordered it correctly. Then I had received emails saying I had picked up the movies and it showed 2 copies of The Help. I was getting ready to email them and noticed that the invoice for one of them was $0 and the other was discounted to 86cents! So, they knew they were giving me the wrong order and I was happy I didn’t get charged for it.

2012 Snowstorm

So we ended up getting around 3-4 inches of snow on Jan. 12.

Trent left school early and got Ethan, which always helps me not to stress about driving. I think it took me 45 minutes to get home that day and it wasn’t that bad. I slipped some but my Cube was great at correcting it quickly.

I think I took this pic around 4pm at work…

Where’s the snow already?

This winter season has been soooo mild. I can’t remember a year like this one. Chicago area has only had 1.9” of snow this season. That is shocking and it is Jan. 11. The last 2 days have been 50 degree weather, too!  I haven’t been needing to even wear my gloves.

Now we are prepping for a possible snow storm tomorrow. They are saying 4 to 6 inches coming on Thursday. T said the snowblower started up a few months ago so I hope it is working correctly now.

Just wanted to make a note about how little snow we have had, just to reflect back on it.

They are calling it a winter weather advisory now.

this model just is funny – saw it last year on FB…winterstormfunny

I am ready for some snow already! T got new tires on the Equinox so he needs to try them out in the snow.

New Year’s 2012

We did our annual appetizer meal for New Year’s Eve. Ethan had said he wanted to stay awake until midnight.  He just played on his laptop and watched some of the new year’s shows with me and wasn’t getting that tired!

I really didn’t think he would make it. DSC04002

He actually stayed awake until midnight!

We heard and saw a few fireworks going off outside.

Happy 2012!

I wanted to make an annual ornament craft with Ethan for our Christmas. I compiled some dollar store craft goodies and we made…

he named him “Kyle” which was kind of odd as it goes against all his past naming ideas. We were expecting, 'spotty’ or ‘jaggie’ DSC03919 DSC03920 DSC03921 DSC03922
