Pumpkin cookies for Halloween party
I found these cute pumpkin cookies on Pillsbury’s site and wanted to try them out for Ethan’s class Halloween party. Recipe here.
They are a peanut butter cookie with orange sugars and pretzel stem. I was worried I wouldn’t find the orange sugar, but I remembered seeing them at Target dollar spot.
Ethan really wanted to help with them, too. I rolled them in the balls and he rolled the balls in sugar.
Then I made the lines to shape them in pumpkins and then he added the pretzel stem.
They did flatten out a little after baking. Ethan kept telling me he needed 22 cookies for his class. It made 30.
I also made the Halloween preshape picture cookies. I rolled the edges in orange or purple sugar. I had enough to take a plate of cookies in to work.
We got Ashton a little Halloween costume, well a witch hat. I saw it at Pet Smart and thought he might keep it on for oh, maybe 13 seconds for a picture.
Yeah, he lasted about 55 seconds before he got it off. He was wagging his tail as I took the pic, though!

Fun food time
Last month Ethan mentioned that he wanted to have the meal with the plate layers or something like that. I figured out that he was talking about my appetizer meal I make on New Year’s Eve. So funny and cute that he recalled it, and I love it now that he is older!
I decided to do up some fun appetizers for the big Purdue vs Notre Dame game. I was excited to use my new server I got from Target. Love it! All the appetizers were from a box, but I did put some grapes, carrots and cheese on the top plate. E said he loved it. He knows how to make me happy now, what a sweet kid.
The game did not have a good outcome for the Boilers. At all. The whole family watched the game on the hi-def tv downstairs. I hardly ever watch tv downstairs, so it was a big deal.
I found a recipe for a taco ring and tried it. At least I enjoyed it, the boys didn’t think it was anything great.
Doesn’t it look neat? It was fun to compile, too!
It has taco meat with onion, then refried beans, cheese and then croissant triangles. I think it was 2 tubes of croissants.

little moments with the grandparents
We went to Northwoods for breakfast last Sunday morning and invited T’s parents to go with us. I wanted them to try it, they had never been there. T’s mom loves breakfast buffets as much as I do, so I thought she would enjoy it all. It is so nice and they have live singer and fresh donuts and it goes until 1pm.
T had to show E how to put lemon wedge in your mouth…nice.
Then T made E a napkin hat…
Then spending time at my parent’s house. Ethan put on my mom’s reading glasses…so funny
my mom thought it was funny that he put them on top of his head like she wears them sometimes…

Party weekend
Ethan has been looking forward to this weekend. He had 2 birthday parties, one on Sat night at a mini-golf place and one on Sunday at JumpZone. Sat night was a girl in his class and you had to wear your halloween costume. He loved that! It was kind of cold out, low 50s when they were golfing outside in the cool halloween themed course. He said they had light up balls!
The one this afternoon was at our local inflatable jumping place. The little girl was also turning 7. She doesn’t even go to his school, she knows him from aftercare! How sweet of her to invite him. She invited 2 other girls that E knew from aftercare, too. I was worried that he would feel lost not knowing anyone besides the birthday girl, so luckily another girl in his class was there, also from aftercare. I think there was around 35 little kids there. yikes! It was crazy crowded in the party room, plus with some of the parents in there.
T and I loved it that we could go out to eat during the parties! That was so awesome!
We went to Northwoods today for the awesome breakfast buffet and invited T’s parents. We haven’t seen them in awhile and Sunday is really the only day to get together with them.
E has a cold and has been coughing some this past week. Now he has runny nose and sniffles. Last night as I was going up to bed I noticed his cheeks looked rosy, so knowing my kid felt his head and it was pretty hot. I took his temp and it was 102.9! So scary and at 1:50am! He was resting so comfortably I didn’t want to wake him up to have him take medicine, but I totally did. I think he woke up a little from the thermometer going in his ear. He opened his eyes after I said his name twice. Usually he is super hard to wake up. I got him to take some tylenol and checked him again in an hour and it was at 99. He was totally normal this morning and all day.
And today we got rid of our futon! Sally bought it from us for her daughter. It just worked out great all around. It has been sitting up in our spare bedroom not being used since we got my parents sectional for our downstairs family room. Now I’m hoping to move the treadmill in there, the room is not that big but I think it would work better in there. I just need a tv in front of me!

Calling in Fall
Here are some pics I haven’t posted from Sept.
We went to our town’s Covered Bridge Harvest Fest. It takes place at the fairgrounds right by our house, so it is fun to attend. We went on Sunday, Sept. 27.
This year we saw the pumpkin chuck. T’s parents came out to see the pumpkins thrown across the lake. There were a lot of teams that made their own trebuchet contraptions. We watched with his parents up on a hill, but could see a lot better right at the grandstand.
It is always a fun day with yummy food. We had a pumpkin roll and then brought home some kettle corn-so good!
Ethan always decorates a pumpkin for $1.
Then we went on a hayride around the grounds.
There were bands, and some craft booths and little pumpkin games and a car show.

another post
Been busy lately.
I’m excited over my new phone! I got the Motorola Rival in pretty purple. I basically got it because it had the slide out text keypad and that it was PURPLE! Oh, and because it was totally free with our 2yr contract.
Excited about tonight’s episode of The Office – Jim & Pam’s wedding. Hope it doesn’t disappoint! It better bring the funny!
The Fall weather is here now. They are saying it could snow this weekend, yikes!

Cousin sleep over due to 20th reunion
I got to watch the cousins Sat. night when my sister had her 20th high school reunion.
I like to plan fun things for them when they get to spend the night here. Ethan saw this commercial for a giant cupcake baker, it was silicone and he wanted it immediately! I said it would be fun to make and have the kids decorate it that night. Well, I remember seeing the Wilton metal pan version of it at Target for like $30. I found it at Bed, Bath & Beyond and with a coupon I got it for $25, awesome right?
Here is the pan I got. You just fill it up 2/3 full. It said it would need 2 boxes of cake mix but I just used one. The top was a little wider than the bottom. I had read that the bottom would need to bake longer, but I just put the bottom part more to the back of the oven and it turned out great.
Trent got pizza for us and then picked up Monsters vs Aliens for everyone to watch that night. So neat that it was actually in to rent.
We put the big air mattress in E’s room for the kids to sleep all together.

Finally dinner out with the girls
My work friends have been planning a dinner out for almost 2 months. We wanted to go out to The Lighthouse in CL. I had never been as most of the the girls. We wanted to go on Winey Wednesday, which is half off bottles of wine. Sally said we had to go on that day, what a deal! Well, Wed. is my busy day at work. Not every week, but lately we have had a lot of ads with last minute revisions. So the dinner had to be postponed when we would be at work until at least 6pm.
We finally got to go on Wed. Just 5 of us met up, K couldn’t get a sitter. We got a Riesling and I really liked it, good suggestion to Sally – the wine expert. I am not a wine drinker, just beer or fruity cocktails at times. I got the sirloin and it was so good, along with steamed veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. I had enough leftover to have the next night for dinner and split it with the kid, too!
It was really crowded in the restaurant but we had reservations. It was super loud, really hard to hear conversations. We had fun hanging out.
They have a nice back patio area with boat docks, but just for drinks. It was getting chilly and I didn’t have a coat so I didn’t hang out there too long.
There was a funny sign along the dock area that read “Please hold your applause until after the sun sets.” I guess it must be some sight.
